❧ /uses ❧

/uses pages started as a developer thing. Here's the official home of them (my site is not listed there.) A number of folks in web revival spaces have intepreted the concept more broadly, which I like. So here is a list of things I have an opinion about using.

Digital

Laptop: Refurbished HP Pavilion Aero 13
Operating system: Windows 11 home (I may jump ship to Linux soon)
Drafting/notetaking: Notion
Coding: Visual Studio Code
Web publishing: GitHub Desktop and Neocities
Email: Spark (I use a version of the Inbox Zero method for processing email)
Database: Airtable
Browser: Firefox

On Paper

Pocket: Field Notes
Notebook: Midori MD A5 dot grid
Looseleaf: Kokuyo Campus B5 6mm ruled
Binder: Kokuyo Campus 2x2 Ring Binder
Planner: Traveler’s Company passport-sized dateless 14-month calendar
Writing desk: ”Beeveer” 18”x24” sloped wooden writing board
Pens: Zebra Sarasa Clip 05, Vintage inks
Pencils: Ohto Sharp Pencil, .5mm and 2mm lead

Knitting

Circular needles: Addi Click bamboo interchangeable set
Double-pointed needles: Knitter’s Pride 8” bamboo
Sock needles: Knit Picks Sunstruck and Majestic wooden needles
Yarns: I prefer knitting with wool, but will also use cotton. I hate most acrylic yarns. Favorite brands include Cascade, Berocco, Garnstudio, Quince & Co.

Bookbinding

Cutting mat: Alvin self-healing
Knife: Olfa ratchet-lock with snap blades
Metal rulers: misc brands, I actually like ones with a non-slip bottom and have learned to cut accurately with them. 6” metal ruler, 12” metal ruler and t-square, 24” t-square, 3” triangle
Glue: Hollanders Polyvinyl acetate for bookcloth and spine, mixed 50/50 with homemade wheat paste for inflexible surfaces
Bone folders: I do not like using animal products like this, but I prefer bone over plastic or teflon. I would love to get my hand on a similar tool the Japanese make out of wood. 6” and 3”
Thread: Irish linen waxed, German 18/3 unwaxed
Papers: Florentine prints, French marbles, solid Bugra, Japanese chiyogami (screen printed) and momigami (textured)

Tarot

I use a number of decks but these are my favorites:
